TREK. August 2015. 7 days hiking.
We will start this trek by walking along the Fimmvörðuháls (Icelandic for "five cairns pass"), from the Skógafoss waterfall to the glacial valley of Þórsmörk (63°42′10″N 19°25′38″W) . The Fimmvörðuháls is the area between the glaciers Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull in southern Iceland.
We will then continue along the Laugavegur, which is a famous trekking route in South-West Iceland from Þórsmörk to the hot springs area of Landmannalaugar (63°59′28″N 19°03′37″W).
While many hikers do this part in one leg, we will split it into two days, to enjoy the scenery, overnighting at one of the two mountain huts and camps along the trail.
It is noted for the wide variety of landscapes that are experienced in just 55 km (34 mi). The route is typically completed over 2–4 days with potential stops at the mountain huts at Hrafntinnusker, Álftavatn, Hvanngil and Emstrur.
